ABSTRACT The present study was conducted to evaluate the performance, carcass yield, and histomorphometry of the small intestine of broilers fed yeast sugarcane supplemented with enzymatic blend from 22 to 42 days of age. Seven hundred broiler chicks were distributed in a completely randomized design in a factorial design (2x3+1), two levels of the enzyme blend (0 and 200 g/ton), three protein levels (0%, 6% and 12%) and a control diet. The level of 6% yeast showed higher feed intake and weight gain after 33 days. From 22 to 42 days there was no significant effect (p<0.05) to the use of yeast in animal performance, carcass yield and cuts. At 42 days an interaction between the factors for width and crypt depth in the duodenum and jejunum, respectively,... |

Five castrated and ruminally cannulated Saanen goats (±48.19kg) were used to evaluate intake, digestibility and rumen fermentation parameters of diets with inactive dry yeast as a soybean meal substitute (0, 25, 50, 75 and 100%). Goats were randomly assigned to a 5×5 (five levels of dry yeast x five periods) Latin square design. Diets were composed of corn silage (40%), ground corn, soybean meal and/or dry yeast and mineral supplement. The intake and digestibility of DM, OM, CP, NDF and TC were not influenced by the treatments. However, EE intake showed negative linear effect. The TDN content did not change with the inclusion of dry yeast in the diets. The pH, N-NH3 concentration and rumen short-chain fatty acids content did not differ among diets. Rumen... |

The current study investigated the effect of dietary supplementation with probiotics and Yucca schidigera extract on physicochemical parameters, proximate composition, mineral content and fatty acid profile of broiler breast and thigh muscles. In total, 240 one-day old broilers were randomly allocated into two dietary treatments groups: 1) Control (basal diet), 2) experimental (basal diet with two probiotics Pediococcus acidilactici and Saccharomyces cerevisiae and Yucca schidigera extract). The results showed that the pH value was higher in the experimental group than in the control group (p < 0.05). However, drip, cook and thaw losses were not influenced by dietary treatment (p > 0.05). A significant increase in protein, Fe, Zn, Na, P and a... |

Extracts of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (Sc) yeast were generated using a biotechnological solid-state fermentation method. The organic material used for fermentation consisted of a variety of fibrous substrates of agricultural origin, and their effect on the chemical composition and productivity of cellular biomass generated was evaluated. The substrates studied included the following: wheat straw, WS; barley straw, BS; chili stubble, CS; oat hull, OH and starch powder, SP (control). For incubation with Sc, 2 g of (dry) vegetable substrate were added to 12 mL of cultivation medium. The fermentation time was seven days under aerobic conditions (pH 5, 26°C). After extraction of the yeast biomass, its chemical composition and productivity were analyzed. The... |

Energy cultures are emerging as viable renewable energy sources because they satisfy sustainability requirements. The present study involves a survey regarding the technological characteristics for sugarcane and sweet sorghum energy crops, in addition to their potential for bioethanol production. An exploratory survey was conducted regarding the agronomic and technological characteristics of cane and sorghum. Pre-inmates were produced with YPSAC 5% liquid medium, sterilized and 0.10 grams of yeasts FT858 and Pedra-2 were inoculated and incubated at 30 °C for 10 h at 250 rpm. After the production, the cells were recovered by centrifugation, at 105 rpm, resulting in a 10 mg mg-1 concentration of moist dough. This dough was subsequently inoculated in the... |

ABSTRACT The objectives of this twelve-week feeding trial were to determine the effects of dietary Saccharomyces cerevisiae and/or zinc oxide on epididymal sperm characteristics, testicular morphometric traits, and growth parameters of bucks. 16 (New Zealand White) bucks 16-wk-old, weighing 2.8kg were randomly allotted to one of 4 treatment groups. Each treatment was replicated four times, with 1 buck per replicate, in a completely randomized design (CRD). Each treatment group was randomly assigned to one of the four commercial experimental diets designated thus: TA = control diet with no additives, TB = 0.12g/kg Saccharomyces cerevisiae, TC = 150mg/kg zinc oxide and TD = 0.12g/kg Saccharomyces cerevisiae +150 mg/kg zinc oxide. Although treatment had no... |
